Friends Association

WHAT IS THE FRIENDS ASSOCIATION?

It is an association of people who believe in the values affirmed by St Benedict and who wish to support our monastic life at Mucknell in whatever way they can: by friendship and prayer; by assisting from time to time in the work of the Community in a voluntary capacity; by maintaining contact with us; and by helping with fundraising.

Periodically, special events are held to which members of the Friends Association are particularly welcome, and a Friends Association newsletter is sent out twice a year, usually at Advent and Easter.

The Friends Association was set up in 1987 by the Community and Dr Mary Welstead (who remains the Honorary Secretary) in order to support our monastic life.  Mary Welstead continues to collaborate closely in organising events and may be contacted at our address, friends@mucknellabbey.org.uk or by writing to:

Dr Mary Welstead, Mucknell Abbey, Mucknell Farm Lane, Stoulton, Worcs., WR7 4RB

FRIENDS ASSOCIATION PROJECTS

From time to time the Friends Association makes a special effort in support of particular projects we are undertaking: such projects will be described here, and their progress reported. If you would like to make a donation to a particular project please write or email us at the address above, or make an online donation.

Current projects include a tree-planting project and monastery-warming presents.

The tree-planting project describes itself. Since the site of the Abbey is surrounded by land that has been farmed for many years, we are planting a proportion of it as woodland: to provide shelter and amenity value; to offset carbon footprint; and, in time, to provide wood-chips for the monastery heating.

The monastery-warming present list, as for a house-warming list, comprises a variety of items for the new monastery which will contribute to viability and quality of life for us and our guests. Please email Mary Welstead as above if you would like to learn more about this list.

FRIENDS ASSOCIATION LETTER

The Friends Association Letter is sent out twice each year so that members who cannot readily visit the Abbey are kept informed about what is going on. Letters are usually sent at Advent and Easter, by e-mail. If you do not enter an e-mail address when you subscribe then a paper copy will be sent to the address you gave.
